Clear, calm and practical support to help you move forward with confidence.

Whether you’re navigating children arrangements, finances, property or the initial steps of separation, mediation offers a structured, supportive space to make decisions that are fair, balanced and future-focused.

We offer both in-person mediation across Kent and online mediation nationwide, giving you flexibility without compromising on quality or impartiality.

Below is an outline of your first steps, and the services we provide.

Mediation services - first steps

MIAM | Mediation Information & Assessment Meeting £150

Before starting mediation, you will need to attend a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM). If you are considering a court application, a MIAM is also usually required - unless a valid exemption applies, such as in cases involving domestic abuse.

A MIAM is a private and confidential meeting between you and a family mediator. During the session, you will receive information about the mediation process and how it works, and the mediator will assess whether mediation is suitable for your situation.

MEDIATION|Meetings are up to 90 minutes|Fee is per person £225

____________________

A joint or separate meeting where the mediator will help you both to facilitate communication. The mediator is an independent and impartial third person who will help you to reach a mutually agreeable solution. They are not permitted to provide you with legal advice, however, they are able to provide you with family law knowledge to aid your decision-making.

Online or In-Person Family Mediation

Our online mediation sessions are delivered via secure video call - ideal if you prefer the privacy and convenience of accessing family mediation from home. Online mediation is just as effective as in-person mediation, offering greater flexibility around your schedule.

What is a MIAM
Before starting mediation, you will need to attend a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM). If you are considering a court application, a MIAM is also usually required – unless a valid exemption applies, such as in cases involving domestic abuse.
Do we have to be in the same room?
No – you do not have to be in the same room. We offer shuttle mediation, where you and the other person are in separate online spaces, and the mediator moves between you. You won’t see or hear each other, but the process remains open, transparent and safe
What if I’d rather go to court?
If you choose to go to court, you will usually need to attend a MIAM first (unless exempt) After the meeting, the mediator can provide a MIAM certificate to confirm you have considered mediation before making your application.
Can a mediator give me a divorce?
No – a family mediator cannot give you a divorce. Mediation helps you reach agreement on arrangements such as children, finances, and separation, but the legal divorce process is handled separately through the court via an online application process.
Do we have to pay for mediation?

Legal aid is available for family mediation. This means that if you are eligible, it might be free for you and the other party. You can find further information on the Family Mediation Council Website – Family Mediation Council

Is mediation about trying to get us to stay together?
No – family mediation is not about trying to get you to stay together. Mediation is there to help you move forward, whether that means separating, divorcing, or making arrangements for the future. It provides a calm, neutral space to reach agreement on children, finances, and practical matters – without going to court.

"Julia is kind, understanding and extremely knowledgeable. She put me at ease during a difficult and emotional time. Julia and the team were professional and efficient. Have already recommended to a friend and wouldn't hesitate to do the same again."
